AC vs DC EV Charging Explained (Singapore)
AC charging (home & workplace)
AC chargers convert power inside your car. They're compact, affordable and ideal for charging while parked overnight — you wake up to a full battery. Almost every Singapore home uses AC.
DC fast charging (commercial & fleet)
DC chargers convert power in the unit itself and push it straight to the battery, charging in minutes rather than hours. They're used for depots, fleets, carparks and public stations, and are eligible for the EHVCG grant for commercial operators.
Which do you need?
If you're a homeowner, AC is almost always the right answer. If you run a fleet, depot or commercial site where vehicles can't sit for hours, DC makes sense. We assess your usage and recommend accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a DC fast charger at home?
Almost never. Home charging happens overnight, so a 7.4kW–22kW AC charger fully charges your car by morning at a fraction of the cost. DC fast chargers are for commercial and fleet use where speed matters.
Is DC charging bad for my battery?
Occasional DC fast charging is fine. Frequent high-power DC charging generates more heat, so for daily use most owners charge on AC at home to keep the battery healthy.
